Our problem is that we fail to come to such a realization, for we too are sinners. Were we to come to such a realization, our names would immediately be written in the book of life, for Christ came to save, not the righteous, but sinners. But for the person whose pride and superficial piety prevent him from seeing that he to is a sinner, repentance is difficult, indeed impossible. Whether such a person will be saved is not easy to say.
